For those of you who don't know the test of legends is a GW tourney being held in their HQ on the 28th of Feb to 1st of March.
There is a gang of mad gamers going from Dublin.
ME- Jimmy Murphy - Space Wolves
Joshua Thaler - The
Hounds of Ulster, UM codex candy asses.
Keith McCallaig- ????? dragons ???? Another bunch of smurf wannabe's
Llyod Courtney - Eldar, Flower arranging a speciality
Ronan Collins - The IG machine of Death and destruction. Wimps the
lot of 'em, but then again there's a lot of them
Donnacha Mac Craith - Tyranids.
The second hand DNA army.
And of Course Josh's significant other Sarah who's coming along to see the sights and laugh at Josh as he gets wupped by hordes of teenagers. (Hi Josh, yes it's still pick on Josh month)
So What's happening for the weekend?
We're going to England, playing LOTS of 40K, drooling all the
Gamesday exhibits in the dark library, hoisting a few pints in Bugman's
brewery and to round it all off we'll argue amongst ourselves for first
place. OK so it probably won't be Da'Lads from Dublin in each of
the top 5 spots but we can hope!! Oh yea and the rest of them are probably
going to try and hang me out the car door for taking the mick out of their
armies.
So onto the tourney. The rules say
1500 pts armies,
no psychic phase,
min 750 points on squads from your support section,(blew out the Sob's
I was going to bring along as playthings for my Space wolves)
Any 2 wound char can lead
allies - only Sob or assassins for Imperial forces.
Judging will be the usual GW mix of knowledge, sportsmanship, and kicking the other guy's butt off the table.
They don't seem to be awarding points for win lose but for how much you kill.
You can get extra points if your opponent vetoes your wargear, 100 pts
+ cost of wargear.
You can also end up with a wad of points through bidding to go first
or second.
Final way of getting extra points is to use your squads to grab
table quarters. 100 pts for any 1/4 where you're unopposed. WE're not sure
if enemy characters or vechicles count as opposition. Characters can't
grab a table quarter for you but it kinda makes sense if they can deny
you the chance to call a quarter your own.
SO onto My army
I'll put up the details when I get a chance but this is the outline
Commnder jumpacking dude with attitude.
Iron Priest
Scout squad
5 man grey hunter squad
5 man blood claw squad
5 man power armoured wolfguard squad
Dread with assault cannon Krack missile launcher
2 twin linked heavy bolter tarantuala's
Landraider.
At the moment my record with variations of this army is mixed.
V 'nids. OK. I lost but there wasn't much of anything standing on either side
V UM style chapters. Very even games. I won by a landslide once but that was down to being able to deploy so that 1/2 his army was running to get to me so I dealt with his army piecemeal.
V Eldar. LOsses. Big ones. 1 on straight fight where I fucked it up badly. 1 on a scenario where I scored some points but I spread myself too thin.
V IG. 2 lost. I straight fight where the hell hound tosted my army and didn't seem to want to die and once in the 16" range scenario where the hell hound wouold not die. I vetoed the ablative armour, I hit it with 2 powerfists and a krack grenade. Penetrated, and killed the crew, except for the flame gunner. It went out of control and crashed into some scenery, Yahhhh, and failed to take any damage. After killing two of the bloodlaws the remaining guy hammered on the side of it with a power fist ,and faied to pen, the Iron proest with his two handed power axe also couldn't pen. The bloodclaw , gettting pretty pissed with the heelhound from hell wacked it with the powerfist once more, penetrated, got to kill the last gunner on a 4, and failed to kill him.
To add to the insult my wolf lord got into HtH with a commisar. and couldn't kill him. in 3 turns he made 6 saves on his field from my powerfist. Naghhhhhhhhhhh
So for the tourney I don't reckon I've a great chance of winning. My army give up too many points when it gets hit. I've 20 men worth 750 pts the eldar army and the IG can put out 20 men for approx 200pts. If I concentrate on one side of my opponents army I'm losing points bigtime. 1. I don't get points for possessing 1/4's of the table. 2 it's hard to kill that many men in 4 turns.
Still I'm looking forward to the tourney being good fun.
Jimmy
